Moving is a difficult task but it’s made even more challenging when you have a lot of fragile items in your home. Fragile items can include glassware, electronics, plates, and vases. It’s ironic that the same items that make your home feel like home are the ones that are the most challenging to transport during a move. Of course, you want to make sure that all your items, fragile or not, will arrive in your new home with less or no damage at all.

Don’t worry though as we are here to save the day. In this article, I will provide you with some handy tips to help make packing belongings more manageable. The goal here is to not drive you crazy during the process as we all know that moving can be a really stressful time in one’s live.

So let’s begin shall we?

  1. For fragile items, the most important label is the vertical arrow pointing up.

Forget labelling what fragile item is inside the box. It doesn’t make a difference. It’s all fragile anyway. Instead, prioritize labelling your boxes to indicate which way is up. It’s direct to the point and immediately tells the person handling it that it shouldn’t be carried on the other side.

  1. Newspapers are your best friend.

Gather up old newspapers and use them to wrap items. Newspapers come in abundant amounts and they’re thick enough to protect items from getting damaged. For items that don’t need to be wrapped with newspapers, you can use the newspapers to fill in any loose space. There should be no extra space to avoid damage. If in need of packing paper and other materials, The Moving Box Company has moving packs that contain the essentials you need when moving. 1. Give your items some love.

And when we say love we mean more time. One of the biggest reasons for your belongings to get damaged is because of rushing. Take as much time as you need in packing your items making sure they are secure. A secure set of items packed properly gives you more peace of mind during the moving process. So, make sure to pack early!

  1. Secure the bottom properly.

Readymade moving boxes typically have a secure bottom but you want to be extra sure especially since it’ll be handling your beloved items. Tape the bottom of the box with packing tape. Double tape, and make a cross if necessary. This ensures that even if the box will give in, there’s still tape to hold it together.

  1. Do not use old clothes and blankets to wrap items.

You’ll only be adding more laundry work to your home when you use shortcut to using these items instead of investing in proper packing materials. You also bring the risk of just damaging your items. Fabric can’t be secured with tape and they’re not ideal for wrapping items, especially fragile ones. Stick to newspapers but if you want to make sure your belongings doesn’t get stained; you may use blank scratch paper. Or you can buy packing boxes online in Melbourne at Themovingboxcompany.com.au.

  1. Talk to your movers!

Sure, you’ve already made the arrangement when you talked to the rep over the phone but sometimes, your message might not get relayed to the right guys. At the start of the move, brief everyone of where specific items are, especially the fragile ones so your movers know which ones to handle carefully.

Simply follow these tips for moving belongings and you won’t have to worry about what item might be damaged on the way to your new place. Instead, you’ll be sitting back or driving in your car excited to have a new beginning again at your new home.
