A master bedroom is a luxury not enjoyed by all. But if you are fortunate enough to have one, be aware that filling it poses a fair challenge, that is if you want to maintain a balance of style and practicality anyway. Unless you have a large budget, you will most likely have to decorate your master bedroom gradually and in stages. Here are a few essential ideas to consider when furnishing.
The Bed Comes First
Naturally, your choice of bed size and shape will have a huge influence on how you chose to furnish the remainder of the room. After all, it is the bedroom! So don’t be afraid to let the bed itself become the centre piece that dictates the layout of the other bedroom furnishings. It goes without saying that your choice of bed is very much a matter of personal taste. However it is important that you shop around, for there is such a diverse selection available both in store and online, from cheap leather beds to extravagant oak ones, you’ll have no shortage of choice.
Create Storage Space
Practically speaking, you’ll want to take advantage of all your available space by installing plenty of storage units in your bedroom. A beautiful big chest of drawers might compliment your bed, and will also provide ample storage space for clothes, jewellery or anything else. Similarly a spacious wardrobe could quite comfortably house more than just your standard dress. Because your bedroom is so big, these large units will not seem imposing or out of place. Furthermore they can provide potential storage for any excess household items.
Divide the Room into Spaces
In some cases, your master bedroom may be so large that you are actually able to divide it up into different zones for specific tasks and pastimes. Naturally, you will have already set out your sleeping area, with perhaps a bedside table and lamp. You may then want to allocate other areas for getting dressed or doing your morning exercises or stretches. If you’re artistically minded, you may even like to designate a small area for drawing or sewing.
Go With You Intuition
These helpful hints are of course here mainly as a guideline to provoke ideas. So unless you have very little capacity for decorating and furnishing, you should always go with your instinct. If it looks good and feels good, do it.
