Being a housewife can be overwhelming but the rewards are many, like being there for your children when they say the first word, when they take the first step and even when they lose their first tooth. It is however not the easiest job on the planet as it is full of responsibilities. When I first became a housewife, I was first frustrated by all that it entails but with time I learnt to love my responsibilities such as creating a loving home for my family, impacting my children with life skills, taking care of my first born (my husband!) and ensuring the home is running.
After learning to organize my time with all the responsibilities, I began having some free time for reading, watching television and even going out with friends. Since I was a child I have always loved competitions, if I was not in a dance class, I was in athletic or in an art competition. I found out that I was enjoying my new stay at home status so much that my hobby of always participating in anything competitive was slowly coming back. So I started with earning loyalty points from my local supermarket during my shopping rounds, I entered cooking competitions in my local area and I entered competitions I saw on TV.
I won a few consolation prizes along the way but never anything big, but one day as I watched my favorite program in which I had entered my name and had been answering quizzes consistently my name popped up on the screen and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that I was the top winner for a luxury holiday in New York (organised by www.element-london.com). Well, I did not rush to conclusions, after all names could be similar you know.., the call from the producers of the program is what confirmed my winning and I was overjoyed. I could not even remember the last time I went on holiday!
When I landed in the Big Apple I was picked from the airport by a limo to the hotel located right next to Central Park which is a must visit place in the Big Apple. After crossing the Queensboro Bridge and entering the glitzy landscape, I felt that I was really in Gotham City. The towering Gothic architecture sprayed with glitzy light pollution in the midnight sky and the city’s endless night buzz kept me awake with excitement and I couldn’t believe I was finally here.
I could not wait for morning to explore this world famous city. I opted to explore the city by hopping on and off buses moving from one street to the next rather than walking since I wanted to see it all. My first route was the 7th avenue to 42nd street past Times Square and to the majestic Grand Terminal and iconic Chrysler building.
The next few days in New York were spent visiting its main highlights; I walked down the financial hub of Wall Street, took a scenic ferry ride past the lady of Liberty and visited the Guggenheim Metropolitan Museum of Art. Finally on my last day being too exhausted to travel anywhere I opted to relax in the sprawling haven of Central Park and enjoy the city views from a relaxed angle. As a mom who had not travelled in a long time, I enjoyed all the thrills of New York and felt reinvigorated.
