Hey Urban Housewives! Everybody managing to keep the midweek blues at bay? I think maybe that’s what’s got me feeling a bit out of sorts, because I can’t seem to stop wanting to turn everything in my apartment upside down. I want cool colors where there are warm, minimalism where I’ve painstakingly executed over-the-top, and more.
When these kinds of fits of redecoration start to hit me, I generally turn to the internet for inspiration. For one thing, the internet is an endless supply of DIY home ideas. But more than that, surfing (seemingly) idly through images of adorable apartment layouts actually is really helpful when it comes to getting a sense of how to execute an idea. In other words, you may think that zebra print rug is a genius addition to your home , but it may only make sense in the context of the safari-themed living room you saw on a website.
My most recent decorating tantrum led me to Prével Urbain, a site with new condos for sale in Montreal. I am super digging the pictures on their site! It’s giving me all kinds of ideas for things that could work if I ever have the money to redo my space. Though I suppose a total redo isn’t in order, but a few tweaks here and there could make a world of difference.
Some of the highlights the images sport include some suspended lightbulb fixtures, which are my new absolute obsession. Lighting like this gives an awesome vintage look without looking cheap. (And believe you me, if you’ve ever looked into having bulbs like this installed you know it isn’t a budget investment.) But they’re totally worth it, at least from my perspective, because they add an instant element of creativity and nonchalance to your home.
Another idea I got while surfing through the site was looking for some vintage-inspired wall-sized skyline art. Is there a better way to describe that? I’m not sure! Regardless I love the idea. I can totally picture me enjoying breakfast and the morning paper in front of a wall like that. It makes a room feel like it has a giant wall-sized window, while still making it clear you don’t actually thinking you’re passing your poster off as a window. Using an image that’s black and white can also free you up to move forward with whatever brighter accent color you choose for your room. Or, even better, if you’re somebody who switches out your accent colors depending on the holiday or season. (I’m not one of those people, but I sure to aspire to be!)
So yeah, I think I went a bit crazy with how inspired I’ve become by these condo designs. But I think it’s a good thing at the end of the day to be constantly on the lookout for fresh tweaks and updates. Our homes – like our lives – are ever evolving. And you never know when a deal or a fabulous find is going to transform your home. Happy hunting!
