Sausage Balls – A Recipe from The Converted Cook

Converted Cook Sausage Balls

How’s it going, Urban Housewives? As the weather turns colder and we head inside to make our meals (kidding – who the heck has outdoor space to cook?!) we’ve got to dig a little deeper for new recipes! If that’s the case for you ladies, then you’re in luck, because this week we’ve got a guest post from Sara K., otherwise known as the Converted Cook. Sara shares one of her hilarious tales of learning culinary self-sufficiency in a kitchen that may just be out to get her with us below.

Hello!  I am a new cook.

That means I am still in the “learning” process of cooking.  I make many, many mistakes in an urban kitchen with an oven that sets fire to anything cooking longer than 10 minutes.

Because I am new, many things I make are a “trial by fire” experiment.  But one thing I am sure and confident about, and thus willing to share with you today, are sausage balls.

A little background:

It’s the holiday season and I want to exercise my cooking muscle.  As it turns out, however, my man suitor’s family is extremely picky.  Not to mention, his mother is also an exceptional cook.

To recap: Options are limited and his mother is an extremely good cook.  Comparisons will be made, judgment may be exercised.

I flip through my rolodex of memories from Southern holidays.  It’s the Northeast after all, what could I cook that doesn’t involve butter (and then more butter)?  During the holidays, what does my Grandmother make that is so delicious?

Trick question: Everything she makes is so delicious.

Hmm… The rolodex flips and flips until it hits me: Sausage Balls.

They are easy to make and easy to transport.  Bonus, they only require a small amount of ingredients, a mixing bowl and an oven. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound spicy sausage
  • 8 oz Chedder Cheese
  • 1 Cup Bisquick
  • 2/3 cup water

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

  • 1. Remove casing from sausage.  Put in large mix bowl.
  • 2. Add cheese, water and Bisquick. Mix together.
  • 3. Once everything is mixed together, start rolling the mixture into tiny balls, about the size of a ping pong.
  • 4. Place on a cooking sheet, and place into oven.  Let cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • 5. Take out and cool.  Enjoy!  Makes about 20-30 sausage balls.
