Top Holiday Suggestions for Single-Parent Families

holiday as a single parent

Being a single parent can be hard work and sometimes the thought of going on holiday can seem like more hassle than it’s worth. However, it’s possible for you to have a very enjoyable and relaxing break, while the children will have the thrill of discovering somewhere new.

The best way to arrange a family adventure holiday as a single parent is to book a tour with a company that caters specifically for your needs. You might be wondering what’s available for you, so here are a few suggestions of trips you could consider.

Greek Cruise

If relaxation is what you need, but you still want to have plenty to entertain the kids, a cruise around a stretch of Greece’s coast will be perfect. This is an ideal way to travel and gives you the chance to see multiple destinations on your getaway without having to worry about organising transport yourself.

Setting out from Evia Island, you’ll sail along the sheltered passage between the isle and mainland Greece, stopping off at places such as Panagia, Marmari and the Petali Islands along the way.

You can soak up the sun on the deck of the boat and jump into the sea for a relaxing swim with the kids when you all get too hot. There are plenty of chances to go ashore during your trip to explore some of the local ruins – like those uncovered at Eretria.

This is a fascinating historical site and the city was once one of the most important in Greece. Among the monuments discovered here are the House of Mosaics and the Theatre, which both date back to the 4th century BC, as well as the Monumental Tomb from the 1st century BC.

Tour of Egypt’s Ancient Sites

If you’d prefer to focus on the cultural or historical side of a destination, Egypt is the ideal place to choose. Tales of the Ancient Egyptians and their Pharaohs will captivate kids, while the chance to see the vast temples, impressive Pyramids and other monuments dating from centuries ago will fascinate young and old alike.

To get the most out of your family tour of Egypt, choose an itinerary that will take you to the country’s best known sights, including the Pyramids at Giza, the Karnak Temple near Luxor and Abu Simbel near Aswan.

A highlight for the children is bound to be the chance to take a camel trek into the desert around Aswan to visit the St Simeon Monastery, which dates from the 6th century and looks amazing nestled in the sand dunes.

Activity Holiday in Croatia

If your kids are a little older and have a lot of energy to burn, an activity break in Croatia will be perfect. There are plenty of thrilling sports to try while visiting the country, making it a great option for some parent-children bonding sessions.

You’ll be based in a peaceful rural location on the Dalmatian Coast just outside Split, where you can enjoy everything from sedate strolls through the beautiful countryside to white water rafting along one of the rivers.

Climbing, sea kayaking and canyoning are among your other options while on a family holiday in this part of Croatia, so you can certainly plan an action-packed break. There are, naturally, some more peaceful options in case you’d like a day or two off, including the chance to visit the picturesque town of Trogir or learn about the pirating history of Omis, another town on this stretch of coast.
